In August 1998
When Chang Yi was ill， Yang Hui-shan kept
vigil by his bed.
When not clasped in silent prayer
by day, by night
her hands were filled with constant work
entrusted with the work of two.
In October as Chang Yi convalesced
the two completed a small piece
which they titled “Heed Attentively”
We often remember to heed untoward suffering
but forget to heed the joys of life the more.
