If ”°mercy”± is the relinquishment of possessions, ”°contemplation”± is the relinquishment of time. It is the most difficult life lesson, it is the process of learning how to govern one's emotion and mood. Especially in times of difficulty. The din, disruption, discontent of this world is abundant - it comes from both the environment and from inside your soul.
Life is hectic, it creates anxiety and pressure; these are forms of hardship, suffering and stubbornness. We often take the second step before completing the first. Stillness is a rarity in life and it often creates an even greater chasm of time and space. It embodies a soothing ability that induces wisdom and connects people. It allows one to hear the chirping birds at dawn and the gurgle of the brook and view the world in a more beautiful light.
The chaos within is because your cup is overflowing; why not pour some of it out? It is difficult to let loose in this life but between the commitments, take 3 minutes to gaze out the window, 5 minutes to listen to a song, 2 hours to read a good book, a weekend afternoon to spend with your children and a week to go on vacation. Things must slow down - listen, speak, write, do - be the one who takes control of your own life. |
